ULC Renews Registration at New ISO 9001:2015 Standard

What is ISO 9001:2015?

The International Organization of Standardization (ISO) is the agency that created ISO 9001, a Quality Management System (QMS) standard used to ensure company products meet the requirements of both customers and industry regulations. ISO 9001 is a globally accepted standard, and it is implemented in more than 170 countries today.

To attain ISO certification, a company must demonstrate that its processes are standardized, consistent, and meet a certain level of quality. When companies implement the 9001 standards, they must register with an accrediting body and are then subject to an audit. After successfully passing the audit, the company earns its certificate of registration.

In an effort to maintain relevance with the latest industry practices, ISO 9001 undergoes periodic revisions by a federation of national standards organizations. The most up-to-date revision is known as ISO 9001:2015. ISO 9001:2015 contains several notable changes to the standard. For example, there is greater ownership of the QMS being placed on top-level management, and companies are required to consider quality performance in regards to their strategic planning. Essentially, ISO 9001:2015 encourages higher accountability and quality among industry professionals.
